When an IGCSE results headline raises concern, pause before booking extra lessons. Gather subject-level evidence from your child’s recent work, teacher feedback, and syllabus expectations so any support targets a real gap rather than a national pattern.
At 6:42 on a school morning in Accra, Ama sees the headline while holding a mug of tea and waiting for her Year 10 son, Kojo, to find his mathematics book. The article describes disappointing results. Kojo reads the first lines over her shoulder, goes quiet, and says, “What if that happens to me?”
Ama’s first impulse is to find a tutor that morning. Mathematics and Chemistry both feel urgent now. If she chooses the wrong focus, however, Kojo could spend the term repeating familiar content while the weakness that costs him marks remains untouched. Separate the national story from your child’s evidence
